Three local organizations are getting some financial help in their efforts to prepare food baskets and meals to serve on Thanksgiving.

The Genesis Group presented checks for $550 each to the Rome Rescue Mission, the Herkimer-Mohawk Interfaith Food Pantry and the Utica Food Pantry today.

Paul Frezza with the Herkimer-Mohawk Food Pantry says the money will go a log way in filling the pantry's shelves for the holiday season.

The $1,650 was raised from a Silent Auction held by the Genesis Group during its recent Celebration of Education.

Gianna Durso, who is the daughter of Executive Director Ray Durso, was the Honorary Chairperson and it was her idea to to do something to help those in need.  Together, Ray and Gianna come up with the idea of having a Silent Auction.

"The Genesis Group and its volunteers were honored to work on this project", said Ray Durso.  He added, "It is meaningful and rewarding when people come together to do something worthy for those in need."
