Today is the American Heart Association's National Walking Day.

In Utica, about 30 walkers laced up their sneakers and gathered at the Boilermaker finish line for a one-mile walk through West Utica.

Sarah Stevens, Senior Director of Development at the American Heart Association, says the event is designed to inspire Americans to live healthier lives and get moving.  Stevens says walking 30 minutes a day,  five days a week is all it takes to get healthy.

The walk was sponsored by the Boilermaker Road Race.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente issued a proclamation declaring it National Walking Day in Oneida County.
