Congressman Richard Hanna and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand marked National Manufacturing Day with a visit to Kris-Tech Wire in Rome.

Following a tour of the facility, the lawmakers discussed new legislation to boost advanced manufacturing and workforce development.

Gillibrand and Hanna are pushing the Manufacturing Universities Act of 2015. The bi-partisan bill would designate 25 universities as "Manufacturing Universities."

The legislation would provide qualifying universities grants of $5 million a year for a four-year period to enhance their engineering programs to emphasize manufacturing skills.

“As we mark National Manufacturing Day, today is an opportunity to encourage young people across New York to learn about the science and technology that goes into advanced manufacturing,” said  Gillibrand. “If we want our local businesses to expand and grow the region’s economy, then we need to make sure our workforce has the skills and training to match.
