Tucson, AZ WIBX) - Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is slowly continuing to improve.

Giffords opened her eye Wednesday for the first time since Saturday’s tragic shooting.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz were in Gifford’s hospital room talking about plans for the future.

Gillibrand says that’s when Giffords began opening her eyes.

The junior Senator from New York says the fact that Giffords was able to open her eyes speaks to her courage.

Gillibrand says nothing  Giffords does over the next few weeks of her recovery period will surprise her.
