MONTICELLO, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a 5-year-old girl has died after the pickup truck she was riding in crossed over a highway median and struck an oncoming pickup truck in upstate New York.

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says the collision happened shortly before 3 p.m. Monday on Route 17 in Monticello. Sheriff's Sgt. Blake Starner came upon the crash scene and performed CPR on the child, identified as Charkeilys Viera of Rochester, before she was taken to Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The child's sister, 14-year-old Charleilys Viera, and their father, 50-year-old Carmelo Viera, were flown to Westchester Medical Center. Police say they're in critical condition.

A couple and their two teenage daughters were in the other pickup truck and were treated for injuries.
