One man is thankful today that some quick-thinking emergency responders were among the thousands of those who walked and ran in this year's Heart Run and Walk.

According to New York State Police Michael W. Wofford from Glenfield collapsed and became unresponsive at approximately 11:30 Saturday morning while walking near Burrstone Road and Washington Drive in New Hartford.

Troopers Adam Ferstand and Daniel Krajewski were working at the intersection when they were notified by another walker that Wofford had collapsed.  An unidentified emergency responder, also participating in the walk, began CPR.  Troopers used an AED (automated external defibrillator) on the man until Edwards Ambulance arrived.

Wofford was brought to Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare.

He was being treated in the intensive care unit as of the last report.
