The cities of Utica and Rome are teaming up with several local organizations, including the Genesis Group and the Chamber Alliance of the Mohawk Valley, for the first-ever "Global Meetings Industry Day."

They'll be joining forces with the advocacy coalition "Meetings Mean Business" to showcase the impact business meetings, conventions and trade shows have on businesses and communities.

"Mohawk Valley Meeting Industry Day" will take place on April 14th, from 4:00 to 7:00 at SUNY Poly in Marcy.

It will feature vendors showcasing area businesses and not for profits and will include tours of Quad-C. It's free to attend, but reservations are encouraged.  For more information, call 792-7819.

Ray Durso, Executive Director of the Genesis Group, says the meetings industry has a significant impact on the local economy.

According to Oneida County Tourism, the area generated $1.2 billion tourism-related dollars over the last year.
