Glue Truck Crashes
At 12:58 p.m. July 7 the Broome County Sheriff's Department responded to a tractor trailer crash on Route 88 West in Sanitaria Springs in the Town of Colesville. A tractor trailer loaded with 76,000 pounds of glue went off the right hand shoulder of the highway and down an embankment. The truck traveled 200-300 feet, jack-knifed and became wedged in some trees.
The saddle bag tanks on the truck were punctured and 75-100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled.
The driver, Dariusz Salata, age 44 from Mount Prospect, Illinois was not injured. He was issued a traffic summons to the Town of Colesville Court for Failure to Maintain Designated Lane, a violation.
Salata told police he took his eyes off the road to take a drink of coffee when the passenger side tires of the vehicle went off a slight incline on the right shoulder of the roadway and he lost control.
