SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Visitors to the New York State Fair are going to have to fork over 25 more cents when buying a cup of milk.

Since 1983, the New York State Dairy Exhibits only has charged 25 cents for a cup of cold milk. The group that runs the milk bar in the Dairy Building at the suburban Syracuse fairgrounds says it's doubling the price to 50 cents per cup.

According to New York State Dairy Exhibits Secretary Bruce Krupke, the group held off increasing the cost for several years, but dwindling cash reserves and operating costs made the increase necessary.

The fair opens Aug. 25 and runs through Labor Day, Sept. 5.
