The troops are made of up the 206th Military Police Company and the 204th engineering Company and will be helping local police and fire officials with tasks such as directing traffic, keeping order if power goes out again and helping to clean up debris.

The first National Guard troops began arriving at the Utica Armory late last night and this morning. With them are more than two dozen vehicles including bulldozers, bucket loaders, excavators and dump trucks.

Engineers will be assisting cleanup and recovery efforts on
Route 168 in the Village of Mohawk and on Route 51 in Ilion.

The incoming troops join over 50 National Guard soldiers already staged at several fire stations in Herkimer County.
