Utica, NY (WIBX) - In order to save taxpayers' money and increase the efficiency of clean-ups, Utica DPW is making some changes.

Beginning April 11th, residents living along the Memorial Parkway and in southeast Utica will have their green waste pick up day changed to Monday nights. Those living in West Utica will have their pick up day changed to Thursday night.

Blue bag garbage and recycling collection nights will not change.

Mayor David Roefaro is also giving residents a two week grace period, where loose green waste can be placed at the curb, beginning next week. People may continue to use collection containers for their green waste, but residents are urged not to use plastic bags.

Green waste can also be taken to the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority’s Yard Waste Compost Site on Leland Ave in Utica.

These changes are meant to make cleaning after Saranac Thursday events more efficient while eliminating redundant DPW crews working in multiple neighborhoods on the same night, according to city officials.

Questions may be directed to the City of Utica DPW at 738-1341.
