All of the land on the former Griffiss Air Force Base now officially belongs to the local community.

A ceremony today marked the transfer of ownership of the last federally owned piece of land on the base back to the Rome community.

Mohawk Valley EDGE President Steve DiMeo says he feels that Griffiss is a bright spot in the upstate economy, and the land can now be fast tracked for community and economic development purposes.

Since the base realignment in 1995, over 3,600 acres on the base have been transferred back to the local community.
