More than 450 cellphones were donated to Senator Joseph Griffo and AT&T's effort to provide troops with free calls home for the holidays.

The cellphones will now be given to Cell Phones For Soldiers.

Proceeds from the cell phones will be used to buy long distance calling cards for troops abroad and veterans at home.

For every donated phone valued at just five-dollars, Cell Phones For Soldiers is able to provide 2 and-a-half hours of free talk time

Griffo said: “The hundreds of mobile devices generously donated by the public in just one month went far above and beyond our expectations when we first kicked-off this charity drive. This truly shows how much compassion and respect our community has for all the brave men and women who sacrifice so much of their daily lives to ensure our nation is safe.

The cell phones were collected at several locations throughout the area from November 5th until December 7th.
