Senator Joseph Griffo and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi were at the Whitesboro Fire Department today to push legislation that would provide better benefit coverage to volunteer firefighters.

The legislation would amend the Volunteer Firefighters' Benefit Law to include more forms of cancer with known links to fighting fires.  Griffo and Brindisi say volunteer firefighters face a significant risk of developing cancer due to their duties.

The Senate passed the bill in the spring, but it was never voted on in the Assembly.

Brindisi and Griffo are urging the public to sign online petitions, asking lawmakers to support the legislation.

You can find the petitions on Griffo and Brindisi's websites
