A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday for a new housing project in Utica.

The Roosevelt Residences project involves the construction of 50 affordable housing units in 25 new buildings on 11 sites in the Cornhill neighborhood.

Eight units will be set aside for homeless veterans.  The project will also include the construction of a new Resident Center.

The $15.8 million project is a partnership between the Utica Municipal Housing Authority, Norstar Development and Norstar Building Corporation.

City officials say the project will be transformative for the Cornhill neighborhood and will enhance the quality of life of people seeking safe and affordable housing in Utica.
