Oriskany, NY (WIBX) - An Oneida County corrections officer and recent candidate for county sheriff has been suspended without pay.

The action by the Sheriff's Office immediately followed news that Angela Gumbarevic faced charges of offering a false instrument for filing and criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Gumbarevic was arraigned on Monday in Oneida County Court.

The allegations stem for signatures that were included on the petitons she filed with the county Board of Elections last year to force a Democrat primary with current Sheriff Rob Maciol.

Oneida County Undersheriff Rob Swenszkowski says the suspension will continue pending the outcome of the criminal case, and an internal investigation examining whether Gumbarevic violated any policies, codes of conduct or rules within the Sheriff's Office.
