Congressman Richard Hanna was at the Parkway Senior Center in Utica to discuss the need to renew a federal law that impacts community programs for seniors.

He's calling on Congress to pass a five-year renewal of the Older Americans Act.

Hanna says the Act provides nearly $2 billion in services annually for about 11-million senior citizens

The Older Americans Act focuses on programs that address transportation, nutrition and support for family caregivers.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente says the Act is vitally important to the county.

According to the US Census Bureau, 17% of Oneida County's population is over the age of 65.

The reauthorization vote will take place next month.
