Area World War Two veterans were honored at a ceremony at the Whitestown Community Center on Monday.

The event was hosted by Congressman Richard Hanna.

Hanna says on the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two, it's important to remember members of the Greatest Generation and thank them for their sacrifice and service.

Each veteran at today's ceremony was presented with an American flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol.  Hanna says several veterans also received medals that they earned but never asked for.

Elected officials attending the event included Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, County Sheriff Rob Maciol, Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri and Rome Mayor Joe Fusco.
