Utica, NY (WIBX) - If you thought it was hot out the last couple of days, today will be even hotter.

An Excessive Heat Warning is effect for the Mohawk Valley from noon until 8:00.

Weather Channel Meterologist Ray Stagic says while temperatures are expected to reach the upper 90s, the heat index will make it feel like it's 105.

Health officials say drinking plenty of fluids, staying out of the sun and in air-conditioned rooms and wearing light-colored, loose fitting clothing, are just some of the ways to lessen the chances of heat-related problems.

Meanwhile, the American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley is offering a place to cool off today.

The chapter offices at 1416 Genesee Street in Utica and 235 North Prospect Street in Herkimer will be open for folks without air conditioning to get away from the heat and have a cold drink.

The offices will be open until 5:00 this evening.
