The Federal Highway Administration is awarding $1 million to the State Department of Transportation to fix highways and roads that were damaged from flooding in 2014.

Congressman Richard Hanna announced today that Herkimer County projects are eligible to apply for the funding.

“It is my hope that this funding will bring about necessary repairs in Herkimer County, so I encourage local leaders to reach out to the state DOT to secure dollars to assist with projects in the Valley,” Rep. Hanna said. “Herkimer County suffered greatly from rising waters and this funding should help restore our roads and make them stronger than before.”

Eligible repair work includes emergency repairs needed to restore essential traffic flow, minimize damage, and repairs necessary to return highways to their pre-flood condition.

Local governments need to contact the New York State Department of Transportation to address infrastructure that was damaged as a result of last May’s flooding.
