Albany, NY (WIBX) -State Senator Jim Seward is reminding residents and businesses to apply for federal disaster assistance in the wake of the recent flooding caused by Hurricane Irene. Herkimer County has been added to the list of counties eligible for both individual and public assistance.

Seward is encouraging those who suffered damage to apply with FEMA as soon as possible.

Residents and business owners who sustained losses can begin applying for assistance by calling the FEMA helpline at 1-800-621-3362 or online at Disaster Assistance-dot-gov.

28 counties in New York are now eligible for disaster assistance.
