It is a case that drew the attention of many after word circulated that more than a dozen dogs, many with mange and near death, were rescued from a home in Herkimer County.

New York State Police have now made an arrest in the case.  65-Year old Barbara A. Smith is being charged with twelve counts of "failure to provide sustenance," after the dogs were determined to be severely malnourished.

There were twelve dogs in all and she is being charged individually for each dog.  Smoth is, therefore, facing a dozen counts of not having a licensed dog and not providing them with rabies vaccinations.

She was released pending a court appearance on December 10, 2013.
