This past weekend was the kickoff weekend for high school football in Section 4.  Several teams opened with games in the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.  A big showdown featured two of New York State's premier football programs as the Chenango Forks Blue Devils traveled to face the Maine-Endwell Spartans at Spartan Stadium in Endwell.

The Spartans and Blue compete in Class B in Section 4.  Between the two schools they have amassed ten total New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships.  The game could easily have been a Section 4 championship battle.

The Forks came in winners of 19 consecutive season openers.  Forks' Coach Dave Hogan and Spartans' Coach Matt Gallagher had met just twice before with M-E winning both times.

This time around the Blue Devils held the upper hand.  Jeremiah Allen got the only touchdown of the first half on a ten-yard run with just under 25 seconds to go in the second quarter. With the PAT it was 7-0 in favor of The Forks at the half.

In the second half Chenango Forks got touchdowns from quarterback Kris Borelli and running back Dan Crowningshield while the defense held the Spartans off the board giving the Blue Devils a 21-0 victory.

This weekend the Spartans host Susquehanna Valley at 7 PM on Friday (air at 6:50 on CBC Sports Radio 1360 AM WYOS).  The Blue Devils host Owego on Saturday afternoon.
