Higher Than Normal Fireworks Complaints This Year

Police agencies all over the region report being very busy July 4 night and even into the early morning hours with nuisance fireworks complaints.

While fireworks are largely illegal in New York State, except non-exploding varieties if approved for use by individual counties, people still have no trouble getting their hands on pyrotechnics.

Some in law enforcement have expressed frustration in the number of pop-up firework stands that appear in New York, even in counties were no fireworks are allowed, selling the illegal goods to customers, thumbing their nose at the law.  Unfortunately, police have many larger issues to address and shutting down fireworks stands isn’t high on the list.

In spite of the larger than usual complaints of fireworks use, possibly due to the nice weather, there were no reports of injuries.
