A fire has claimed a historic hotel in Stamford, New York.

The blaze broke out at approximately 11:00am on Tuesday, March 25, 2014.  The six-alarm fire engulfed the Frank W. Cyr Center, formerly the Rexmere Hotel, and destroyed the seven-story building in less than half an hour.

MetroSource is reporting that fire crews responded to the scene moments after fire alarms sounded, but they were unable to stop the spread of the fire.

The Rexmere first opened in 1898.

Last year the building, which has been used for educational offices, was listed for sale last year for $600,000.
