History And Hostility As Clinton Ascends To Nomination

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A glass ceiling is shattering at the Democratic National Convention as Hillary Clinton ascends to the presidential nomination.

Tuesday's roll call of the states will make her the first woman to lead a major party into a White House race.

But hostility is being heard even as history is being made. Rhetorically, at least, Bernie Sanders' supporters also are breaking some glass, loudly protesting his treatment by the party and still cold to Clinton.

Even so, liberal favorite Elizabeth Warren, Sanders himself and Michelle Obama gave everyone something to cheer about Monday night.

Mrs. Obama offered a full-throated endorsement of Clinton and sideswiped Donald Trump without naming him.

Sanders implored his followers to swing behind the nominee, asking them to imagine what would happen if Trump shaped the Supreme Court.
