Holland Patent High School is defending its decision on Tuesday to keep the school open.

In a statement Superintendent Kathleen Davis wrote, "11 surrounding schools in our component area remained opened on Tuesday, February 12, 2012 [sic]. We followed our same time tested procedures that we have followed over the past 30 years."

She also wrote that although many factors are considered when deciding to close the school, no factor is more important than student and employee safety.

The response stems from a Tuesday accident on Route 365 in Floyd that claimed the life of 16 year-old student Anusha Yagey.
