BATAVIA, N.Y. (AP) — Dairy processor HP Hood has purchased an idled yogurt production facility in western New York and plans to invest over $200 million to convert it to produce "extended shelf life beverages."

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Hood's purchase of the former Muller Quaker Dairy plant in Batavia Tuesday. The Democrat says the new plant will bring 230 jobs to the area over the next five years.

The facility was formerly operated by a joint venture between PepsiCo and Germany's Theo Muller Group. It was purchased by Dairy Farmers of America after Muller stopped yogurt production in 2015.

Cuomo says Empire State Development will provide up to $5 million in jobs tax credits and a $2 million grant from the Upstate Revitalization Initiative. Genesee County is also providing tax breaks.
