Local officials, including Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri, cut the ribbon today on the Humphrey Gardens expansion project.

A total of 12 new apartments were added at the housing development on Herkimer Road in North Utica. There are five 1-bedroom and seven 2-bedroom units. The project also includes a new resident center and computer lab

Officials say the $2 million project addresses the need for quality, affordable housing for area residents.

With the addition of the 12 units, the Humphrey Gardens complex will have a total of 120 housing units.

The project builds upon the Utica Municipal Housing Authority and Mayor Robert Palmieri's ongoing affordable housing initiatives that have invested over $40 million in constructing 65 single-family homes and adding 109 new rental units.
