Plaquemines Parish, LA (WIBX) – Southern Louisiana is being slammed by high winds and torrential rain from Hurricane Isaac.

The storm continues to lash the region with 80-mile-an-hour winds after making landfall early this morning.

Isaac brought with it enough water to overtop an eight-foot levee overnight in Plaquemines Parish.

At least 500,000 customers in Louisiana are without power.

President Obama has declared states of emergency in the coastal areas of Louisiana and Mississippi.

The Category One storm is slamming the region exactly seven years after Hurricane Katrina.
