The warmer temperatures in the Twin Tiers actually have a down-side.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch beginning at 10 p.m. January 11 through 7 p.m. January 13 with ice jam flooding a possibility.  Officials say the warming temperatures causing snow melt combined with one to two inches of rain will result in rising water levels on rivers and streams which can break up ice and possibly cause ice jams.

Ice jams can result in localized flooding for the entire region.

Residents are encouraged to keep an eye on rivers and streams and keep up on forecasts and future weather statements.
