Ilion Woman Arrested For Welfare Fraud

An Ilion woman has been arrested for welfare fraud.

The Herkimer County Sheriff's Office says 29-year old Crystal Preston failed to provide the County Department of Social Services with an accurate accounting of her household income.

They say as a result, Preston allegedly received over $1,500 in Temporary Assistance benefits and nearly $900 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits from October of last year through this January she was not entitled to

Preston is charged with welfare fraud, grand larceny and offering a false instrument for filing.

She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Herkimer Court.
