With the circus we call "Election Season" comes to an end soon, we celebrate by voting. Are you legally allowed to take a selfie with your ballot while voting in New York?

Secrecy in voting has seemed to wave goodbye forever when people share their political views on social media. But the question of photos at the polling station have been raised into question in recent years.

Federal judges have established laws against sharing any photo of your ballot in 18 states:

The full list of states with laws on the books against showing your ballot to other people is: Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, South Dakota and Wisconsin, according to ABC News.

While New York state does have such a law, the Board of Elections ruled in 2012 that the law still applies to showing your physical ballot to another person, but that a photo of a ballot is not the same thing. Voters will not be punished for sharing photos of ballots.

So in theory, here in NY you are in the clear. Just to be safe, maybe take a selfie without the ballot if you feel safer doing that.
