Six correction officers at the Mid-State Correctional Facility in Marcy were injured when an inmate attacked them with a makeshift weapon.

According to the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association, the incident happened on May 8th as two officers were conducting a search of the inmate and his living quarters.

Officials say the inmate initially complied with officers’ orders to face the wall to be frisked, but suddenly turned and pulled a metal ice pick-type weapon from his waistband.

The injured officers were initially treated by medical staff at the facility.

They were then transported to two local hospitals for further treatment.

One officer was briefly knocked unconscious during the incident.

All six were released but did not return to duty.
