Inmates Attack 12 Staff Members At CNY Psychiatric Center

A dozen staff members at the Central New York Psychiatric Center in Marcy were injured when a large group of inmates attacked staff members and other inmates inside the facility.

According to the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association, the incident began when five to six inmates started attacking staff in the kitchen area.

They say several of the inmates used kitchen items as weapons.

As an emergency response to the attack was activated, a similar situation happened on the floor above the kitchen.

Four staff members suffered head injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Outside law enforcement agencies, including State Police, were notified and responded to the facility.
