Some schools in CNY need to focus on their food preparation and storage more than their lessons. Four schools in CNY fail their NYS Health Inspection

Health Inspectors turn up refrigeration problems, insects, rodents, poor conditions, dirty surfaces and more in four schools from Oneida and Herkimer Counties.

Herkimer Elementary School

Herkimer Elementary School was inspected on August 4, 2017, and the Health Department found "potentially hazardous foods not stored under refrigeration except during necessary preparation or approved precooling procedures."

Remington School - Pathways Academy

Health inspections on May 10th, 2017 at Pathways Academy in Ilion uncovered "canned foods in poor conditions (leakers, severe dents, rusty, swollen cans). Food workers weren't using proper utensils, eliminating bare hand contact with cooked or prepared foods. Insects and rodents were present; floors, walls, ceilings, weren't smooth, properly constructed, or in disrepair."

Adirondack Central High School

The Health Department found "potentially hazardous foods were found not being kept at or above 140oF during hot holding" at Adirondack Central School in Boonville on April 26th, 2017.

Remsen Elementary School

The surprise inspection at Remsen Elementary School on May 10, 2017, reveals "potentially hazardous foods were not kept at or below 45oF during cold holding, except smoked fish not kept at or below 38oF during cold holding."

The schools have 30 - 60 days to fix the critical problems discovered by the NYS Health Department. Since kids don't head back until after Labor Day, surely any issues can be resolved.
