Authorities say 47-year-old Samuel Lambert of Johnson City has been charged with first-degree attempted assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Investigators say police Monday afternoon received a report that a man had been stabbed in the area of 212 Grand Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a man had sustained minor injuries to his head during a dispute.

Police detained Lambert at the scene and then transported him to the village police station.

Detectives later determined Lambert had stabbed the other man's dog earlier in the afternoon. The attack on the pet led to the altercation during which the man was stabbed in the head.

Police say the man was treated at the scene for "apparent minor injuries" and released.

In addition to the attempted assault and weapon charges, Lambert faces counts of tampering with physical evidence and second-degree menacing.
