Two people are dead, including a Johnson City Police officer, following a shooting this morning in front of the Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center near Binghamton.

Bob Joseph of Townsquare Media station WNBF in Binghamton says the officer died shortly after the shooting.



UPDATE 3:31-The officer killed has been identified as David Smith.

The name of the suspect has not yet been released.

UPDATE 5:00- Two people are dead, including a Johnson City Police officer, following a shooting this morning in front of the Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center near Binghamton.

Police Chief Joseph Zikuski says 43-year-old David Smith was shot three times by an MRI technician who worked at Southern Tier Imaging.

Smith had responded to a reported disturbance at Southern Tier Imaging shortly after 7:00..

Smith, who was an officer with the Johnson City Police Department for 18-and-a-half-years, died at the medical center about an hour after the shooting.

Zikuski says Smith was shot by 43-year-old James Clark of Greene.

The chief says responding officers shot Clark several times.

Clark later died at the hospital.

Police haven't released a motive for the shooting.
