Jury Selection to Begin in Steubenville Superintendent Trial

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Jury selection is set to begin in the trial of a school official accused of misleading authorities in their investigation into the rape of a girl by two high school football players.

Suspended Steubenville schools superintendent Mike McVey faces felony charges of obstructing justice and tampering with evidence for allegedly destroying data related to the school's investigation of the August 2012 rape of the 16-year-old West Virginia girl.

McVey also faces a misdemeanor count of making a false statement for allegedly concealing knowledge about rumors of a teenage sex and drinking party four months earlier.

McVey, who has pleaded not guilty, is accused of destroying emails and computer data. The trial begins Monday in Jefferson County court.

The two players have served time in state juvenile detention and been released.
