Floyd, NY (WIBX) - A Floyd minor is recovering in the hospital after officials say he stabbed himself in the abdomen. According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, the 17-year-old called 9/11 around 5:30 a.m. this morning to report that he ingested a large quantity of pills.

He hung-up the phone without revealing his whereabouts to emergency first responders however, he was located a short time later in a residence on McKern Road, after Sheriff Deputies searched the vicinity of where the call came from, using triangulation. Officials say he threatened himself with a knife and subsequently plunged the weapon into his abdomen. He was tasered after withdrawing the knife and officials say it was to prevent him from causing further injury.

The young man was taken into custody for "Mental Health and Hygiene laws." He's listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, and is also under going mental health treatment at a local hospital. Deputies say before reverting to using a taser, they verbally attempted to stop him from injuring himself with the knife he was wielding.
