A now former employee of PAR Technology Corporation in New Hartford says he and about 20 others were laid off on Monday.

Paul Babitz says it came as a complete surprise, and workers were told that decision comes after PAR 'lost a software company', Babitz said.

He estimated the layoffs at 'about 20' based on the number of employees he saw leaving the building as he did, adding he knew of at least four who were laid off in manufacturing, and at least one each in exchange and the stockroom.

Babitz was employed in the shipping department, he said.

PAR underwent several changes among its board of directors in 2014. The company offers an array of hardware and software solutions for the hospitality and other industry. Additionally, PAR’s Government Business is a leader in providing computer-based system design, engineering and technical services to the Department of Defense and various federal agencies, according to its website.

Calls to officials at PAR Technology were not immediately returned.
