LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (AP) — A popular state-run beach at Lake George in the Adirondacks has reopened after a period of elevated bacteria levels.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation closed Million Dollar Beach last week to assess the potential sources of bacterial contamination that had already shut down the beach twice before. The beach on the lake's southern end was closed because of high levels of coliform bacteria.

The state reopened the beach Monday afternoon after tests showed decreased bacteria levels.
