Utica's longest-serving mayor wants another chance to lead the city.

Republican Louis LaPolla has announced his candidacy for Mayor of Utica.

LaPolla -- who served as mayor from 1984 to 1995 -- says he made the decision after careful thought and discussions with supporters, residents, members of the business community and his family.

He says in the coming weeks, he'll outline how he hopes to shape the city and encourage investment in Utica for years to come.

LaPolla is currently a member of the Utica School Board.
