Several Herkimer County law enforcement agencies have agreed to join forces and work together when it comes to making purchases and sharing services.

The announcement was made on Wednesday at Herkimer College.

After months of discussion and research, the Herkimer, Ilion, Dolgeville, Frankfort and Little Falls Police Department have signed a services sharing agreement.

When a municipality needs to purchase fuel, equipment, vehicles, office supplies or other items, they can experience considerable savings and lower rates.

This agreement marks a “New Beginning” for the residents of Herkimer County.  It affords the taxpayer a chance to see a savings in goods and services and hopefully down the road it will pay off for us in other tax incentives, said Anthony Brindisi, Mayor of Herkimer.

The Genesis Group helped facilitate the agreement.  Executive Director Ray Durso says the goal was to take a look at consolidation, sharing of services and to identify cost savings.

Durso says the Genesis Group believes the agreement will have a positive impact on the municipalities as well as Herkimer County, and it will also send a positive message of cooperation and progressive planning to the community.
