The 2017 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics took place today in Oneida County.

The run began at the Oneida County Sheriff's Office with a torch lighting ceremony and ended at State Police Troop D Barracks in Marcy.

State Police Captain Mary Clark, Trooper D Zone Commander, says the torch run serves as a fundraiser for Special Olympics New York.

Clark says 60 to 80 law enforcement personnel from the Mohawk Valley participated in the run.

Local law enforcement agencies who took part in the torch run included the Sheriff's Office, State Police and the New Hartford, Utica and Rome Police Departments.

This year's run was dedicated to former Utica Police Deputy Chief Michael Bailey, who recently passed away.
