Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi and Senator Joseph Griffo are calling for an immediate resolution to a school funding lawsuit.

Final briefs in the case, Maisto v State of New York were filed this month and the case is before a State Supreme Court Justice in Albany.

The Utica City School District and seven other small city school districts are seeking an end to the violation of students' constitutional right to "a sound basic education."

The lawsuit challenges the state's failure to provide adequate funding and resources to high need school districts.

Brindisi said “The Maisto case is critical in the fight to deliver a quality education to the 55,000 students in these 8 small cities. Moreover, from a statewide perspective, given the State’s failure to commit to adequate funding, Maisto is the singular hope for the poorest children in New York.”
