SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Lawmakers in Utah have passed a bill that would allow death by firing squad if there weren't enough drugs to carry out an execution by lethal injection.

The bill's sponsor, Republican Paul Ray, argues that a team of trained marksmen is faster and more humane than the drawn-out deaths that have occurred in botched lethal injections. Republican Gov. Gary Herbert won't say if he'll sign the measure.
