A lawsuit has been filed to resolve the term limits dispute in Utica.

Judge Erin Gall will hear the case on Wednesday, August 29th in Oneida County Supreme Court.

Former Utica Councilman Lou Critelli filed the last round of petition signatures to reform term limits on Tuesday.

The City Clerk refused to certify the the signatures, saying she could not formally file them until September 24th.

The petitions must be submitted to the County Board of Elections by September 6th to appear on the November ballot.

Critell wants to return term limits in Utica back to 8 years as originally approved by public referendum in 1992.

The current 12 year term limits were put in place last year by the Common Council.
