Fourteen people have been assisted by the Mohawk Valley Chapter of The American Red Cross following two separate house fires in Utica.

Both fires occurred on Saturday. The first happened in the afternoon on Elizabeth Street which impacted three families including four adults and six children, ages 1 through 5.

The second fire occurred in the early evening on City Street. That blaze displaced a total of four adults.

The local Red Cross chapter provided financial assistance for essentials for all 14 people and also offered emotional support, comfort kits, personal care items and stuffed animals for the children.

The Mohawk Valley Chapter of The American Red Cross will continue to be available in the coming days to help on the road to recovery. If you would like to support the group that helps others, you can call 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit redcross.org.
