The City of Utica has its first candidate for the upcoming election in the Common Council's 3rd ward.

Attorney Jason Flemma has announced his candidacy for the seat currently held by Councilman Rocco Giruzzi, who is ineligible to run again because of term limits.

Flemma, who earned his bachelor's degree from Ithaca College and his Juris Doctorate from Hofstra, says he has five campaign goals for the city.

Among them are a consolidation of services, fixing the city's roads and doing more to maintain Hallak's Ravine, which has produced several South Utica floods in recent years. He also is in support of more codes enforcement within the city and a continued focus in developing South Utica's "Uptown District."
